Kiwi snow boarders make the cut at Burton NZ Open

Two star Kiwi snowboarders have made the slopestyle semi-finals during the Burton NZ Open’s qualifying round at Cardrona today.

Rebecca ‘Possum’ Torr, 20, was the top girl out of five to qualify, while James Hamilton, 21, was the 13th of 16 guys to make it through to the semis.

Hamilton will be pulling tricks alongside Benjamin Farrow, Jamie Nicholls, Sam Hulbert, Robbie Walker, Arthur Longo, Adrian Krainer, Morten Klelvdal, Hans Mindnich, Isao Seki, Tyler Anderson, Kevin Bronckaers, Aleksander Ostreng, Paul Britcha, Ryan Stassel and Broc Waring.

Along with the top guns who automatically get bumped through to the semis, Torr will be competing against Rana Okada, Danielle Adams, Megan Whiteside and Ty Walker in the women’s slopestyle.

Of the 42 men and 21 women competing, only 14 – eight guys and six girls – will make it through to Friday’s final.

The qualifying round for the half-pipe event is tomorrow.
