Kelvin Heights close but no cigar – again

SHARE

Poor old Kelvin Heights – their winless Twenty/20 cricket team has lost four games this season in the last couple of balls.

The side went down to Jack’s Point last Sunday and is now the only winless team left in the competition.

Kelvin Heights captain Charlie Phillips sums it up thus: “We’ve had a shocker this season – lost three games on the last ball.

“If the games were only 19 overs long, we’d have eight points.”

Meanwhile, top-of-the-table teams Arrowtown and Wakatipu clash in the final round of the Mountain Scene Twenty-sponsored league this Sunday.

Wakatipu – wooden spooners last season – were unbeaten till their sixth-round loss to Fernhill/Sunshine Bay in miserable weather last Friday.

Defending champions, unbeaten Arrowtown, had been due to play Central Queenstown last Sunday but that game’s been postponed due to rugby commitments by Arrowtown players.

Frankton, guided by Rob McDonald’s 62 not out, made a winning 142 against Lake Hayes Estate.

Frankton’s Alec McLaren, 11, took two for one in Lake Hayes Estate’s last over and was left on a hat-trick.
The semi-finals and final will be played on March 18.
