Kate Richards, nine, rips down the Coronet Peak course in the first Junior Interfield Ski Race series event last Saturday.

The Cardrona High Performance Centre skier won the girls’ E2 category for nine and 10-year-olds.

Kate was among 200 young ski racers taking part – with extra buzz created by Olympic gold medallist Lindsey Vonn training nearby.

Two $500 Snowvision Foundation training scholarships went to Jackson Rich of Queenstown Alpine Ski Team and Ben Richards of Cardrona High Performance Centre.

The second leg of the six-event series is at Wanaka’s Treble Cone ski area this coming Saturday.
