The competition was red-hot when young ski racers hit Coronet Peak yesterday to test their talent on the slopes.
More than 180 youngsters between five and 16-years-old competed in the first Dynastar Lange Junior Interfield Ski Race Series of the season.
The speedsters – some from as far afield as Japan, Sydney and Auckland – hurtled down the giant slalom course twice, with the combined times giving their overall score.
The youngest podium place-getters were E1(born 2002 – 2005) girl Francesca Masfen and boy Takada Shunnosuk, E2 (born 2000 – 2001) girl Lucy Brown, boy Ben Ellis, K1 (1998 – 1999) girl Eden McKay, boy Jackson Wells.
In the K2 category, for competitors born in 1996 or 1997, Piera Hudson was the fastest girl over the two timed runs, with Laurie Taylor her male counterpart.
Laura McLaughlan took out the Junior girls top spot in the 15 and 16-year-old age bracket.
Round two of the six-part series kicks off this Saturday at Treble Cone in Wanaka.
