Two Queenstown junior snow guns have cashed in on their stellar giant slalom race skills this season.
Local youngsters Laurie Taylor and Ben Ellis – both members of the Queenstown Alpine Ski Team – took home $500 scholarships last Sunday.
Elizabeth Reid from the Cardrona High Performance Centre claimed the third cash scholarship up for grabs while her teammate Sam Richards won a Switerzland-based race training programme.
The awards were dished out after the final of five battles – over two months – in the Junior Interfield Ski Race Series at Coronet Peak last weekend.
Hundreds of wannabe racers zipped down the slopes, but the overall top speedsters for the year were E1 girl Francesca Masfen, boy Cameron Brownsey, E2 girl Phoebe Young, and first equal boys Ben Ellis and Ben Richards.
Elizabeth was the fastest K1 girl, with Jackson Wells from Wanaka’s snow-dominating family named winner in the K1 boy category.
Piera Hudson was crowned K2 queen while Justin Kumono was the fastest K2 boy.
