Fencer Fiona Seal (right), duelling with Alison Price at Queenstown Swords, hopes to expand their club membership.
The teenage swordswoman is one of a handful of Queenstowners who practise the ancient art and modern sport – one of only five disciplines to have featured in every modern Olympics.
Club member Jonathan Seal says: “We’re trying to bring people into the sport and increase participation.
“It’s a vicious circle because the equipment is reasonably expensive but hopefully people will come down and be interested enough to take it up.”
The club meets at Queenstown Performing Arts Centre on Thursdays from 6-8pm.
