It’s party time in Queenstown tomorrow when the resort hosts the spectacular opening ceremony for the inaugural New Zealand Winter Games.
There’ll be a fiesta of flags and fanfares as athletes, VIPs and celebrity guests join thousands of spectators for the action, which kicks off in Earnslaw Park at 1pm.

1pm-2.15pm: Earnslaw Park – live music from Mutz Nutz
2.45pm-3.55pm: Earnslaw Park – live music from The Cartel
4pm: Queenstown Bay – skydivers
4.10pm: Queenstown Bay – local kids carrying flags of competing nations arrive by jetboat to walk to the Earnslaw Park stage
4.15pm-4.50pm: Earnslaw Park – Powhiri welcome featuring athletes and VIP speeches, with Governor-General Sir Anand Satyanand declaring the Winter Games officially open
4.50pm: Steamer Wharf – fire show plus live music from the GCs
5pm: Steamer Wharf – after-party starts
7pm-late: Steamer Wharf – live music from The Lynch Mob
