Queenstown batsman Jarred Andrew reckons the senior men’s cricket team’s collapse against Blackstone Hill last Saturday was down to “too much Christmas spirit”.
The local side was rolled for just 72 at the Events Centre to lose their first game of the second round of the Central Otago Koford Cup – the opposition knocked off the target with the loss of only three wickets.
“We were a bit thin on the ground through some players being away at Christmas functions and others being injured,” Andrew says.
“A few of us, myself included, were also at festive dos the night before and perhaps weren’t quite as with it as we should have been. However, it was still no excuse for being bowled out for 72.
“Traditionally, we have a game like that once a year and we’re hoping that one was it and we can carry on from here.”
Queenstown’s last game before Christmas is against Albion at the Events Centre at 1pm on Saturday.
