Filling up: Competitors in last year's Queenstown Marathon set off from Millbrook Resort

By GUY WILLIAMS

The half marathon in the New Zealand Sotheby’s Queenstown Marathon’s sold out, four
months before the event.

Ironman Group media manager Craig Heydon says the November 20 event’s organising
team’s ‘‘thrilled’’ the distance has hit its cap of over 6000 entrants, as it has in recent years.

Entries overall are going ‘‘very well’’, already reaching 80% capacity, Heydon says.

‘‘We’re expecting the 10km distance will be the next to sell out, with only limited spots remaining.’’

Despite the trans-Tasman travel bubble closure, Australians are still signing up for the
event.

‘‘We’re hopeful the situation in Australia improves in the coming months and we can see
our Australian friends join us in November.’’

The resort’s biggest one-day event, 11,000 runners and walkers took part last year,  although that number was down by 1000 on 2019’s event.
