Southern Lakes free skiing sensation Jossi Wells is in the running for a top gong at the Otago Sports Awards.
Wanaka-based Wells, the reigning free ski world champion, has been named as a finalist in the junior sportsperson of the year category – one week after taking major accolades at the Central Otago Sports Awards.
Last week he was named joint-sportsman of the year with Paralympic ski racing gold medallist Adam Hall at the awards. The pair also claimed the overall sportsperson of the year title.
Wells is joined by his father Bruce, who’s in contention for the Otago coach of the year award. Bruce is also fresh from being crowned Central Otago coach of the year.
As well as coaching Jossi and three other sons to a world and two national age group championship titles, Bruce worked with other skiers attending the Junior World Championships in 2010.
The Otago Sports Awards will be held in Dunedin on May 27.
