NZSki bosses want the country’s biggest snow sports event to remain a Winter Olympics warm-up every four years.
The deep south’s Winter Games is scheduled to be biennial after last week’s successful inaugural event.
“Talking to the athletes it’s the last time they’ll race before the Winter Olympics. With every two years, it’s obviously not going to happen,” NZSki boss James Coddington says “We believe the mana and the prestige of the event is that it’s the last event prior to the winter Olympics and obviously that’s every four years.”
He’ll be taking his views to the Winter Games debrief.
“We want to understand what [the organisers’] drivers are for having it every two years and we need to weigh that up as a business case and what is good for the community, industry and our business.”
Cardrona’s marketing boss Nadia Ellis says having it every four years to coincide with the Olympics is “logical”.
