Euro vision at Coronet

Ski racing fans can get up close and personal to the slalom action with a Euro-style supporters tent at Coronet Peak.

Ski company Volkl is putting up a spectators’ tent during next Wednesday’s Winter Games slalom racing in Rocky Gully.

There’ll be free mulled wine and German hotdogs – and plenty of cow bells to ring – as a nod to how ski racing’s viewed in Europe, Volkl New Zealand distributor Geoff McKeown says.

“If you’ve been to any big ski events in Europe, they have hospitality tents along the course, whereas we have corporate boxes at a rugby game.”

Situated almost halfway down the Rocky Gully race course, just above Heidi’s Hut, “You’ll be closer to these Olympic athletes than you would be to the All Blacks playing at Eden Park”, McKeown says.

“Come along, make some noise to cheer on the Kiwi athletes and soak up the European atmosphere that goes on in these athletes’ home countries.”

The tent will open from 11am-2pm.
