End in sight

Queenstown’s Jordan Bell eyes up the finish line at Tucker Beach during the Queenstown Hill Challenge last Sunday.

He was one of 110 competitors in the inaugural 13km challenge – billed as a “mini Motatapu” race held to raise money for Wakatipu High’s annual Branches Camp.

Organiser Ken McIntyre says he was thrilled to raise more than $4000 for the running of the adventure camp, which has faced financial pressure.

Queenstown’s Tony Middendorf won the bike section in “about 45 minutes” and 14-year-old Wakatipu High pupil Joel Climo “blitzed” the adult competition by winning the running category in 1hr 10min, McIntyre says.
