A top Queenstown triathlete recovering from a gastro bug had to pull out of last Saturday’s Lake Hayes women’s tri.
Tanya Dromgool (right) – who picked up the debilitating bug while training with a semi-professional team in Germany last August – is on the comeback trail but says she “got really crook again” before the event.
“I went and watched it – it looked pretty brutal, it was quite cold.”
The individual swim/bike/run tri was taken out by local nurse Andrea Lowry, who in January won the 20-29 age group in the gruelling Challenge Wanaka Ironman.
Lowry – whose time on Saturday was 54min and 50sec – was followed by locals Tamsin Browne and Kylese Zaiger.
The fastest team was Queenstown’s Team Pinnacle Physio & Training in 54:10sec.
The event, which also included duathlon and run sections, attracted 89 individuals and 14 teams.
