Cox the king of the mountain run

Shotover Moonlight Mountain Marathon title near Queenstown last Saturday. British mountain running champion Martin Cox has won the Shotover Moonlight Mountain Marathon. 

Cox finished in 4 hours and one minute which was 29 minutes faster than his winning time in the inaugural race from Skippers Canyon to Moke Lake last year. 

Second was Brazilian Flavio Vienna in 4:14, while former local and five-times Coast to Coast winner Richard Ussher finished a minute behind in third after leading at halfway. 

The women’s winner was Ruby Muir in 4:49 followed by Ussher’s wife Elina Ussher and Anna Frost who crossed hand-in-hand in 4:57. 

Oska Inkster-Baynes and Sonia Bracegirdle won the men’s and women’s half-marathon, respectively while there were also 10km and 5km runs.

Organiser Adrian Bailey was delighted with the 600-plus field, including almost 200 marathoners from all over the world.
