As the Otago Country rugby squad’s only Arrowtown rep, fullback Blair Foster hopes he’ll be selected for today’s fixture on his home ground.
The team plays Heartland champs Meads Cup holders North Otago at Arrowtown’s Jack Reid Park at 2pm.
Foster played in Otago Country’s season-opener against Southland Country, in Dunedin last Saturday, which they lost 18-10.
The 28-year-old, who manages Skyline Queenstown’s luge, recently completed his third season playing for Arrowtown.
He admits his selection for Otago Country was ‘‘a bit of a shock’’, but also a confidence-
In addition to his competent kicking game, he says ‘‘this year I’ve tried to focus on running the ball a bit more and backing myself’’.
He played his final four games for Arrowtown this season at first-five, which he relished.
Meanwhile, the Otago Country squad also includes Wakatipu Premiers players Rube Peina, Jake McEwan and Matt Saunders.
● Along with Arrowtown Rugby Club’s award winners, announced last week, Jimmy O’Malley won the Keith Crawford Memorial Trophy for his outstanding contribution to the club.
