Central Queenstown Pelicans’ fast bowler Wade Cornelius has achieved the rare feat of destroying a batsman’s middle stump.
Cornelius, 32 – who took 40 first-class wickets for Canterbury – claimed two other wickets, including a first-ball bouncer which caused Steve Fraser to tread on his stumps at the Mountain Scene Twenty/20 game last Friday.
The Pelicans overtook Kelvin Heights’ 115 runs in their 18th over, Damian Petre top-scoring with 40.
In Friday’s other opening-round game, Arrowtown trounced Wakatipu by 77 runs. Arrowtown’s Hayden Finch top-scored with 42 and Tom Lynch took 3 for 15.
On Sunday, Jack’s Point came up six runs shy of Frankton’s 90.
In the other game, Fernhill/Sunshine Bay amassed an amazing 187, Sean Windle whacking 88, including seven sixes. Lake Hayes Estate were then rolled for 111.
