A Queenstown martial arts tutor hopes to bring cage fighting to town now that he has a competition-sized enclosure.
Fight Science trainer Jason Smith, pictured (right) with sparring partner Sebastian Tuvio, is encouraging punters to have a go at the hard-core mixed-martial art after getting a cage at the Industrial Place gym.
Cage fighting is basically all-out fighting in an octagonal-shaped pen – with very few rules.
“You can’t kick your opponent in the balls, punch them in the throat or do any fish-hooking … which is getting a finger into the mouth or an open wound,” Smith says.
Smith, who says it’s the “fastest growing sport in the world”, hopes to hold cage fights with top Kiwi fighters in Queenstown.
