The Ranfurly Shield of Queenstown Twenty/20 Cricket is again on the move after Frankton defeated Kelvin Heights on Sunday.
Frankton snared the prestigious Ian Paterson Challenge Cup despite mustering just 103 runs from its 20 overs. Kelvin Heights fell three runs short in the chase. Frankton’s victory means it stays at the top of the Mountain Scene Twenty/20 table, jointly leading with Central Queenstown and Fernhill/Sunshine Bay.
Frankton will put the Challenge Cup on the line this Sunday – as is required each week – during its match against Jack’s Point.
In other results, Central Queenstown beat wooden spoon contenders Wakatipu, chasing down 106 with four overs to spare. Chris Julian top scored for Queenstown with 45. Arrowtown beat cellar dwellers Lake Hayes Estate by 42 runs. The Fernhill/Sunshine Bay goats beat Jacks Point by just 12 runs.
