Calling Queenstown rugby stalwarts

Wakatipu High is urging rugby-mad volunteers to consider applying for coaching this year’s top schoolboys’ rugby team.

This year the high school First XV moves up a grade to enter the Highlander’s Secondary School Rugby competition, competing against the top boys’ teams in Otago and Southland.

As a result, the local team will comprise players from Queenstown, Wanaka and Cromwell. It will be based in Wanaka and called the Mt Aspiring College First XV.

Wakatipu High’s sports coordinator Laura Allen says Queenstowners are welcome to apply for the coaching and management jobs. Both are voluntary positions.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in coaching First XV or top-level rugby who is passionate about rugby and young men playing the game – and a challenge to essentially develop a team culture for a side that is experiencing the challenge of playing in the Highlanders’ competition for the first time,” she says.

Applications, to be lodged with Wanaka’s Mt Aspiring College, close on February 22.
