Newcomer Boydtown Chargers staged one of the biggest run chases in the Mountain Scene Twenty/20 cricket league last Friday.
Lake Hayes Estate, batting first, posted a formidable 189 runs for five wickets, Andrew Ross scoring 91 and Chris Brown 48.
Boydtown, however, ran the total down, scoring 195 for the loss of only four wickets and with one over to spare.
Captain Brett ‘Big Show’ Anderson scored a quick-fire 71, hitting a six to win the game.
Sam Frame contributed 49 runs and gun local tennis player Riki McLachlan hit 30.
Boydtown now shares the competition lead with three-time defending champion Arrowtown.
In the other game played last Friday, Frankton broke its points drought by beating win-less Wakatipu in a close-fought tussle.
Frankton notched 141 for five, Jamie Jenkins top-scoring with 41 and Jack Gilbert hitting 31.
Frankton then restricted Wakatipu to 136 for seven.
Last Sunday’s two scheduled games, Kelvin Heights versus Arrowtown and Central Queenstown versus Jack’s Point, were postponed due to rain.
The league is taking a break till January 24, but those two games, and three others abandoned the previous weekend, will be played before then.
Lake Hayes Estate is playing Frankton at the Events Centre in Frankton at 5.30pm tomorrow and Boydtown is playing Kelvin Heights next Thursday.
Other games are still to be rescheduled.
