Skilled pro-BMX rider Mike ‘Hucker’ Clark turned in a blistering performance to win the 2013 Red Bull Roast It in Queenstown.
The happy Californian – a huge favourite with the 2000-strong crowd at Gorge Road Jump Park on Saturday – beat 45 talented BMX riders to take the Best Rider title.
Clark landed scores of spectacular airborne tricks during the 45-minute grand final and later delighted spectators with a jaw-dropping balance act – standing on his handlebars as he travelled about 10 metres over the rough ground.
“It’s a dream come true,” Clark says.
“I came here injured and just planned on just staying safe and having a good time.
“To think that everyone liked my riding that much that they voted for me, it’s a dream come true.”
The American banked $5000 for Best Rider.
Best line went to Kiwi BMX hero Jed Mildon, who previously landed the world’s first triple backflip, with a huge double transfer across two gaps followed by a 360 tail whip.
Aussie rider Brandon Loupous, another contended for rider of the day, pulled off a cash roll to tie best trick with New Zealander George Bolter, who landed a physics-defying 360 transfer.
US star Brandon Dosch also hit the heights with a series of technical runs and was unlucky not to make the podium.
