The Arrowtown Premiers rugby team will be in the Central Otago final again after demolishing Wakatipu 26-8 yesterday before a large crowd at the Events Centre.
Wakatipu opened the scoring with a penalty to Brad Roberston but Arrowtown led 10-3 at halftime courtesy of a brilliant drop goal by Reece Winter and a converted try to prop Matt Cruickshank which was awarded despite the hint of a double movement.
The critical passage came early in the second half when Arrowtown held out Wakatipu through excellent defence and some poor handling by Wakatipu.
Winter stretched the lead with two more penalties before Arrowtown’s Joe Rokococo impersonator, Fijian flyer Jone Nayaloga, swan-dived for a try, which Winter also converted.
Winter added another drop goal before Wakatipu no.8 Ben Blakely scored a consolation try.
Arrowtown travel to Ranfurly next Saturday to play Maniototo after they beat Cromwell in the other semi-final yesterday.
