Arrowtown first-five Josh Brazier (pictured) tries to elude Wakatipu Premiers loosie Regan Pearce during a hard-fought rugby derby last Saturday.
Arrowtown won 27-11 at the Queenstown Recreation Ground to secure a Central Otago semis berth after trailing 11-3 at halftime.
“The forwards fronted up in the second half, ” Arrowtown coach Simon Spark says.
Wakatipu coach Kelvin Middleton concedes his fifth-placed team can’t make the semis but says: “I was probably more impressed with the guys’ first 40 minutes than I have been for the last couple of years.”
In the curtainraiser, the Wakatipu Wanderers turned the tables on Upper Clutha in the senior reserve competition, winning 40-5. In the second round of Countrywide competition on Saturday, Wakatipu Premiers are at home to Toko and Arrowtown travel to Owaka.
