Queenstown personal trainers Sarah Cole (pictured) and Richie Lambert practised what they preach last weekend.
The couple were the first Queenstowners home in their age groups during Challenge Wanaka’s half ironman
– a 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run.
Cole, 35, finished second female in the 30-39 category in 5hr 11min 36sec. Lambert, 33, was the eighth male in that age group with 5:01.50.
“I found the swim and the bike felt good, but for me running is always the hardest mentally,” Cole says. “Richie did really well – he was up against people with all the gear and he was riding a clapped-out chariot,” she laughs.
The couple, who own Funktional Fitness, say they’re always setting personal goals for others so “it’s nice to go out there and give something back to our clients”.
Queenstowner Jodi Currie, 28, won the 20-29 age group for the 226km full ironman race, smashing last year’s time by an hour to finish in 11:14.32 and eighth overall, earning herself an entry to Challenge Roth in Germany.
Queenstown’s Charlie Wright, in Mountain Scene last week, did the half in 6:21.21, coming in 21st.
