  • The airport Avis desk was closed so local tourism heavyweight Barry Thomas popped the key for his rental, which he’d driven from Dunedin, into the drop-off box. Embarrassingly, he then realised the deposited key belonged to his Jaguar, which was in the airport carpark. So he had to cab home to get a spare set before he could move his set of wheels.
  • PJ’s Fish & Chips is advertising for a kitchenhand in its shop window: “Must know what a chip buttie is!!!”
  • Local vet practice owner Ngaire Mace chose an appropriate place to marry last Friday – Macetown.
  • Despite it being February, the awful weather made it fitting the two major sports played here last weekend were the traditional winter codes of rugby and netball.
  • Spotted on the BP round­about at Frankton last Saturday lunchtime. A little old lady in a silver sedan going the wrong way around before heading off in the direction of Lake Hayes. Big thanks to the drivers on all four exits, switched on to the confused old dear, who didn’t enter the roundabout until she was well gone.
