Name game: Sir Michael HIll

THE newly-knighted Michael Hill is actually a Dick. An interesting sidelight of Hill’s knighthood is the revelation that his first name is Richard. So he could actually call himself Sir Richard Hill – probably not an option since he’s got ‘Michael’ in the name of his jewellery chain. Funnily enough, Christine Lady Hill’s first name isn’t Christine, either – it’s Anne.
SPEAKING of Sir Michael, he had something interesting to stay about American reality TV star Kim Kardashain, the celebrity face of his recent ‘world’s greatest couple’ $1 million diamond giveaway contest. According to National Business Review, he admitted that beforehand he’d never heard of her. "She’s not the smartest girl but what a body!”
I KNOW weather round New Year, not for the first time, has been icky in these parts. But it’s a pity that between New Year’s Eve and this weekend’s Glenorchy Races and national rugby sevens, there’ve not been any major events to entertain people and maybe hold visitors in town a bit longer.
I KNOW the Southland Rugby Union’s got financial problems but it’s still a shame they can’t pop two hours up the road this weekend for the national sevens. The entry fee’s paltry, the organisers accommodate the teams and Southland can guarantee plenty of support – I mean, doesn’t every second Queenstowner claim they’re a Southlander?
