Queenstowner Andrew Rutherford – one of three candidates for two Otago Regional Council seats – is asking locals to give him their only tick.

Voters can vote for two of the three candidates, but Rutherford wants them to cast just one vote – for him.
“If they tick two ticks, that’s effectively one vote against me.”

His rivals are sitting councillors, ex-ORC chairman/ex-Cromwell mayor Duncan Butcher and Alexandra’s Gerry Eckhoff.

“People from Alexandra and Cromwell are representing Queenstown and I don’t think they really care so much about Queenstown as Alexandra and Cromwell,” Rutherford, 33, says.

Rutherford, who’s been here 23 years, manages the Night Bus for his family, who also own airline Glenorchy Air.
