Queenstown’s longstanding health saga isn’t a reason for outgoing Southern District Health Board boss Brian Rousseau’s departure.

He’s moving to Adelaide to become the inaugural boss of the Central Adelaide Health Network, where he’ll oversee the $1.9 billion rebuild of Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Rousseau says his decision to leave has nothing to do with community demand for equitable funding of local healthcare – which culminated in a critical National Health Board review last month.
“If you take a look through my entire time with the health board, every time you try to make change it is very difficult in health,” he says.
“You could have equally said if I left at any other time you’re leaving because of this, that or the other. My initial view was I would be with the DHB for seven years. That’s what I’ve committed to with the board, so I think eight-and-a-half years is a good run.”
Rousseau adds he’s looking forward to “a new challenge”.
