Shooting star: Chico's/ABL goal shoot Sherrie Gwerder slots another long range goal

Reigning Wakatipu premier netball champions Chico’s/ABL have yet another title in their sights after a narrow semi-final victory yesterday (Saturday).
They beat a strong Pub on Wharf team 48-45 in a hard-fought encounter at the Queenstown Events Centre.
Pub on Wharf, bolstered by goal attack Kota Bakani and with unremitting defence from captain Sarah Russell, were a stronger proposition for Chico’s/ABL than earlier in the season.
However tall Chico’s/ABL goal shoot Sherrie Gwerder was able to put enough balls through the hoop to keep her side in front at the end of every quarter.
“Pub on Wharf kept coming back at us,” Chico’s/ABL defender Lisa Murphy says.
“We just had to pull our heads together and play safe netball again and put it in the hoop.
“That’s the best I’ve seen Pub on Wharf all year and their defence was amazing.”
Chico’s/ABL opponents in the final next Saturday are WHS A, who predictably beat younger high school team WHS Yr10A 53-24 in yesterday’s other semi-final.
The Senior A semi-finals were also held yesterday.
Executive Accommodation beat the young WHS Yr9A team to claim one finals spot on Saturday.
They’ll be up against WHS B, who beat Glenorchy in the other semi-final.
