In his stride: Wayne Evans powers through Lake Hayes waters on Saturday

The largest dedicated mass swim of Lake Hayes occurred on Saturday.
Forty-two participants joined the Foveaux Masters Swimming Club’s annual swim.
All but one of the swimmers swam the two kilometres-plus distance from the rowing club to the other side of the lake and back.
Leading the pack of 41 was leading Australasian masters swimmer Wayne Evans, of Invercargill. The 44-year-old finished in 27min 51sec.
Second was top Southland swimmer Joyce Wiegersma in 28.58sec, a second ahead of Dunedin’s Richard Jongens.
