New GM role reflects realtor’s ‘growth mindset’

To help grow its business, Colliers Otago’s appointed Dunedin-raised Roger Ellis to the new position of Queenstown-based ‘general manager real estate’.

Ellis has had more than two decades’ experience in management, sales and marketing roles in New Zealand, Australia and the UK with Independent Liquor and then with rival Lion Nathan.

Queenstown-based Colliers director Mark Simpson says ‘‘our priorities in the establishment of this new role were a growth mindset and proven abilities in team management and motivation’’.

He considers Ellis is ‘‘a great fit with the enterprising Colliers culture, focused on accelerating the success of our clients and our people’’.

Ellis says he sees scope for Colliers to sell ‘‘higher-price bracket’’ residential property.

‘‘The plan for the next five years is to certainly expand right across the board.’’

Living in Cardrona, he believes he’ll be geographically well placed to service Colliers’ Wanaka and Cromwell offices, too.

He describes the current market as ‘‘bizarre’’.

‘‘It’s gone beyond where it was pre-Covid — the numbers I’ve been looking at are incredible.

‘‘There’s plenty of enthusiastic buyers from Australia, now Aussie’s opened up, and certainly Auckland.’’
