Everything points to the New Zealand Open going to Christchurch’s Clearwater golf course ahead of Arrowtown’s The Hills.
A press conference at Clearwater is expected to announce Clearwater will host the New Zealand Open for the next three years, The Press reported.
The tournament was hosted at The Hills – owned by jewellery king Michael Hill – for the past three years, and last July in Mountain Scene Hill launched a campaign to keep the Open local.
This year’s tournament will be played from December 1 to 4 and is expected to be run by NZ Golf.
To the exasperation of The Hills, NZ Golf has dithered for more than a year in announcing a new venue.
