An 11-year-old Queenstowner has struck it rich on the banks of the Shotover River.
Andie Gillings successfully dug up a gold nugget worth $2300 in a contest run by Shotover Jet last Saturday in conjunction with its annual Locals’ Day.
The jetboat company ran the competition to celebrate 150 years since gold was discovered by Thomas Arthur on the Shotover River.
Andie was one of almost 100 children who took part in a treasure hunt last Friday.
Names were drawn from correct entries and Andie was one of 40 children who took part in the dig the next day.
Shotover Jet also ran discounted boat rides for locals with the proceeds to go to Wakatipu High’s E-xcellerate project.
