A secretive terrorist group dubbed the “Yarn Bombers” has struck in central Queenstown.
A landmark concrete sculpture of a kiwi at Steamer Wharf was targeted in the early hours of last Saturday and decked out with woolly leg and beak warmers.
The group responsible has contacted Mountain Scene. They claim the raid was part of the first International Yarn Bombing Day – which celebrates a type of street art known as graffiti knitting.
“A friend and I just wanted to have a little crazy fun,” a nameless yarn bomber states.
“The kiwi looked chilly down there by the lake. We want to remain anonymous in case there are future missions to accomplish in order to raise a smile from Queenstown’s passers-by.”
