Words of wanderlust

A travel blog for friends and family has now become a published book by Queenstown councillor and lawyer Russell Mawhinney.

Mawhinney’s self-published 190-page Blogs of the Travel Bugs is being sold at $30 via Queenstown Primary and Remarkables Primary – the schools get $5 per copy.

Travel Bugs recounts the global family travels of Mawhinney, wife Susan and sons Ryan, Mitchell and Seth.

“I just think kids can learn so much through travel – apart from all the languages and culture, how to handle things if they don’t go according to plan.

“Kids can learn these places aren’t as scary as they seem on the news,” he says.

He began his blog about six years ago, reaching 17,000 words, and topped it up to 35,000 words to turn it into the book.

Put out via Amazon and Auckland’s Mackay Books, the book’s first printing is 200 copies.
