Sporting veteran Steve Gurney is setting his sights high at this year’s Queenstown Winter Festival.
The former Coast to Coast winner is returning for the 2015 Birdman event with a simple message: he’s back and he’s looking for competition.
Gurney is currently working on his Hits 90.4 Birdman contraption and is confident he’ll reclaim his 2013 title.
Entries were disappointing last year but he reckons his return will bolster applications.
“I’m challenging people to come join the fun. It’s not about how far you jump - it’s about entertainment.”
Gurney reckons a dip in the lake is better than a coffee boost in the morning.
“It’s an amazing feeling as you run across the pier and realise - ‘God what I am doing’ with a big grin on your face,” he quips.
The American Express-sponsored festival kicks off on June 19.
