The popular Queenstown Winter Festival ball on June 21 is adopting a magical wonderland theme.
In celebration of C.S.Lewis’ children’s novels The Chronicles of Narnia, guests will be transported to the land of eternal winter.
Tickets for the glitzy SkyCity Narnia Winter Ball at the Queenstown Memorial Centre go on sale on May 5.
“The ball is one of the most popular events for visitors and locals and last year the event sold out within one week,” American Express Queenstown Winter Festival manager Lisa Buckingham says. “The Narnia theme is set to impress, so people need to get in quick.
“There were some very disappointed people last year when all the tickets sold so quickly,” she tells Mountain Scene.
Auckland-based entertainment stars Jackie Clarke and Frankie Stevens are signed up for the night.
The Queenstown Jazz Festival, with Wellington jazz trombonist Rodger Fox, will also entertain.
Local casino operator SkyCity Queenstown earlier reconfirmed its ball naming sponsorship – last year it rescued the glamour event after it was canned in 2012.
SkyCity Queenstown general manager Michelle Baillie: “The 2013 SkyCity Casino Royale Ball was such a success, so we were delighted to ensure it was again part of the programme during the Winter Festival’s 40th anniversary year.”
Tickets this year are $159 per person, including a three-course meal and plonk from local Gibbston Valley Wines. Tickets for other festival events will also go on sale on May 5.
