The Wakatipu’s longest winter storm in 50 years leaves St Paul’s Anglican Church in Arrowtown as pretty as a picture on Tuesday.

Snow has blanketed much of the resort since last weekend and more’s on the way with a south-west change today and tomorrow, local meteorologist David Crow says.

“It’s certainly the longest period of snowfall that I can recall – and I’ve been living here since 1962 – but it may not be the heaviest snow.”

The extraordinary dump follows the worst start to the ski season in 20 years but skifield operators and businesses are now relishing the snow’s arrival – just in time for the school holidays.
