A spectacular snow dump has blanketed Queenstown.
The resort’s downtown area is carpeted in the white stuff which dumped non-stop through most of last night (Saturday).
Ski field operator NZSki’s website hails the arrival of powder at Coronet Peak, citing snow depths on the lower mountain of 35cm – and 45cm on the upper mountain.
“…20cm of new snow in the last 24 hours and it still keeps coming. Exceptional skiing and riding with very deep pockets of wind-blown powder,” the website says this morning (Sunday).
Meanwhile, The Remarkables, NZSki’s sister ski field in Queenstown, is closed.
“Strong winds and heavy snow falls have closed The Remarks for the day. With limited trails open please ski and ride with care,” NZSki’s snow report says.
One young Queenstowner Alex Cooper, five, was content using his toboggan to rip down the snow-covered embankment at the Recreation Ground.
“It’s been worth the wait,” father Simon says.
