Medical delegates in Queenstown for a conference this weekend have an early start on Saturday – a 7am fundraising run.

The Pat Farry Rural Health Education Trust is putting on the fun run or walk as part of its fundraising activities during the weekend of the New Zealand Rural General Practice Network conference.

Delegates and any keen members of the public are invited to meet before the 7am start at the Queenstown Gardens entrance opposite The Bathhouse off Marine Parade. The run will follow the Frankton Track along the lakefront and finish back at the Gardens entrance.

Entry is by donation which goes towards the trust, established in honour of the late Dr Farry who passed away in October, 2009.

The trust was set up two years ago to continue his legacy by supporting sustainable and quality health services in rural communities.

Dr Farry was a respected GP and health educator who innovatively supported rural medicine and GP education – he also established the Queenstown Medical Centre. The trust hosts a wine and art auction fundraiser that Saturday night at the Millennium Hotel being kicked off by renowned Kiwi poet Sam Hunt.

Auction items include special cases of vintages from Wakatipu wineries and work by local artists including Marilynn Webb.
