Kiwi film star and part-time Wakatipu resident Sam Neill (left) signs Queenstowner David Kennedy’s family heirloom autograph book.
Neill’s signature joins some of the country’s most famous names – including Sir Edmund Hillary and aviator Jean Batten.
Kennedy got Neill to sign during a dinner hosted by chef Peter Thornley at the Hilton’s Wakatipu Grill last Friday.
The book dates back to the 1930s when it was started by a former secretary of defence – the godfather of Kennedy’s mother.
Kennedy inherited it in 1996.
“My family said you’re in Queenstown, and Queenstown is like Rome – all roads lead there – so you’re in the best position when a few people come through. You may as well carry it on.”
Since then, Kennedy has signed up Bill Clinton, English cricketer Ian Botham, American boxing icon Sugar Ray Leonard and Kiwi Prime Ministers Jenny Shipley, Helen Clark and John Key.
