Local MP Hamish Walker is running to prepare for a walk.
The Clutha-Southland MP has signed up for the first 24-hour Relay for Life Cancer Society fundraiser in Queenstown.
Walker will walk the entire 24 hours solo, on a lap around the Lake Hayes Showgrounds, starting noon on March 16.
“My motivation behind it is simple – I’ve had people incredibly close to me affected by cancer.
“If I think about what they have to go through, and imagine how hard it really is, this is a walk in the park in comparison.”
Walker’s already done two long runs in Queenstown over the past 10 days to prepare for the event.
He expects to cover about 100 kilometres over the course of the event.
