Wakatipu High’s new deputy principal appointed

Wakatipu High has appointed Oded Nathan as the school’s new deputy principal.

Nathan, who was head of Mathematics, has been at Queenstown’s secondary school since 2010.

Principal Steve Hall says there was a lot of interest in the position, which was made vacant when long-time deputy principal Grant Adolph resigned last term for family reasons.

“This was a genuine contest. There was a strong field of very good candidates,” Hall says.

“Oded has got a lot of respect from students and staff. People seem very happy about the appointment.”

His role will concentrate on the day-to-day running of the school while Hall will focus on strategic direction, resources and overall management.

Nathan is from the United States and prior to coming to Wakatipu High he was head of Mathematics at Christchurch’s Cashmere High, where he also spent time as acting deputy principal.

After Adolph’s resignation Nathan was acting assistant principal. He is also a former staff representative on the Board of Trustees. The school will now advertise for a new head of Mathematics.

Hall says Nathan’s appointment concludes the senior management review that was recommended by former limited statutory manager Peter Macdonald, the Government-appointed lawyer who has been working with the school for the past 18 months.

Assistant principals are Pauline Lawrence and Eleanor Quaid.
