Trust offers cash fillip for visual art community

New grants are set to give local artists a New Year’s boost.

The Wanaka Arts Charitable Trust’s offering three grants for artists in the Central Otago-Queenstown Lakes area of between $2000 to $4000 each.

The grants are to be used for the development and installation of a visual arts project.

Trust member Peter Gregg says the local visual arts community’s “quite strong”.

“It’s a lot stronger, there’s a lot more artists living in the area.”

The trust started in 2009, with plans to hold events for local artists.

Now, they want to put money they’ve raised from those events back into the art community.

The application programme opens January 14 and closes at the end of February.
