Nabbing a monster trout in Lake Wakatipu is the highlight of Aussie tourist Matt Shaw’s honeymoon.
The North Queensland deep-sea fisherman (left) landed this 9.6kg whopper on his first trout fishing attempt.
“Don’t tell the missus, but this has just made my trip,” Shaw, 29, says.
He plans to mount the fish – caught in the Frankton Arm about 9am on Tuesday during a charter with XStream – despite wife Nikki asking: “Will we fit that in a pan?”
“This is a once in a lifetime trophy,” according to charter skipper Craig Hine.
“I have been trout fishing all my life and I have never held a fish like that before,” Hine adds. “Every other fish I catch from now on will seem like a piddler.”
