Trolley derby’s heavenly creature

Queenstown woman Roni Carroll (above) takes her “Vatican I” popemobile replica for a spin during Saturday’s Arrowtown Preschool Trolley Derby. Carroll – who drove the course wearing a Pope’s mitre – was one of 16
competitors in the community event.

The derby raised about $5000 through entry fees and stalls selling refreshments, plants and scarecrows made by preschoolers – the school will use the money to buy outdoor climbing equipment.

Lake Hayes’s Roger Grant and Team Road Runner won the overall prize of $500.
