Ten-year-old Georgia O’Malley shows the style that’s won her two Australasian Dance Association scholarships for topping her grades in jazz and hip-hop.
Another Queenstown School of Dance student, seven-year-old Lydia Holmes, also topped her hip-hop grade last year, while the school itself was one of only five out of more than 75 in Australia and New Zealand to receive an “outstanding studio” award for its hip-hop syllabus.
Teacher Anna Stuart is stoked because 2008 was only the second year the 120-student school has taught the two dance styles.
“It is my goal as a teacher to nurture the inner dancer in every one of my students.
“I push the students to express their own style and personality and
I believe that is why they stand out.”
Stuart says Georgia and Lydia have “that performance X-factor and I can’t wait to see just how great they’re going to be”.
