Tourism giant backs hall upgrade

A Queenstown tourism giant is putting its might behind fundraising efforts for Queenstown’s multi-million dollar hall upgrade.

Real Journeys has offered the hall trust the takings from an upcoming overnight cruise trip on its Fiordland Navigator on August 31.

The local chapter of the University of the Third Age has been given sole use of the boat which can take 68 passengers.
The $3.1 million upgrade of the hall is now underway with Arrow International overseeing the tearing down of the front of the building two weeks ago.

The first stage of the renovations must be complete by December 21 to ensure the National Rugby Sevens can go ahead on the adjacent Recreation Ground in early January.

The major overhaul will see improvements to the bedraggled hall’s acoustics, stage area, seating and its foyer.
