Queenstown’s Mountain Scene and its website scene.co.nz are both finalists at the prestigious Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers’ Association awards.
Mountain Scene – dubbed the free voice of Queenstown – is the only Kiwi publication up for a gong in the Newspaper of the Year category for papers with a circulation of 10,000 to 25,000. The other five finalists are all Australian papers.
Scene.co.nz is one of six finalists for regional News Site of the Year.
The PANPA awards – held in Sydney later this month – attracted more than 600 entries from Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific and parts of Asia.
PANPA boss Mark Hollands says the level of entries gets better every year.
“Many judges who have taken part in similar industry awards have said this is the highest standard of entry they’ve seen. That says much about the professionalism of our industry.”
Mountain Scene editorial director Garry Ferris says part of the entry is based around coverage of the Queenstown flooding in May – and to be the only New Zealand publication in our category shows this paper covers the big events better than any of our competitors in this part of the world.
